Gluck AJR spectacularly won the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club 2022 Grand Prix, in celebration of the 51st anniversary of Qatar’s Independence, at the Cidade Jardim Hippodrome, Jockey Club de São Paulo.

The race, held over 1,300m on turf for females aged 4 and over, had an electrifying finale in which Gluck AJR (Mared Al Sahra x Genna AJR by Voltaire Rach), masterfully led by jockey José Severo, won by a nose of difference over RG Kalifa (Cáceres CSM x Caldas CSM by Pavel Rach) and Osiris Rach (Eksort Rach x Olympia Rach by *Aicyng AHRA), second and third places respectively.

Trained by Oberdan S. Pereira, Gluck AJR takes her third win, having previously won the UAE President Cup Series for Fillies III Award on April 23 and the UAE President Cup Series For Fillies Grand Prix on May 21. A victory that confirms her quality and potential in future races.

Almir José Ribeiro, owner and breeder, said: “It was one of the most exciting races ever held in São Paulo and with a definite finish on arrival. Gluck AJR won with a nose difference in an excellent contest with the other two fillies. This victory shows the degree of competitiveness of our horses and all the progress we have actually achieved in Arabian horse racing in Brazil. In addition to being a victory with a special flavor, as today Qatar celebrates its 51st anniversary of Independence.”

For trainer Oberdan S. Pereira “the race was electrifying. From the start Gluck AJR raced with class and jockey Severo was perfect in driving. She responded well to training and did what she loves most: she won.”

“We didn’t have a good start, but we recovered and started the dispute for second place. I waited for the final stretch to react and look for the victory and we won with a nose of difference. I trained with Gluck AJR during the week and as she is a mare I know well I was sure we would win”, declared jockey José Severo.

VG Raj Al Mared flew at the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club For Maiden Horses Awards

VG Raj Al Mared was the sensation of the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club For Maiden Horses Award by winning, in his debut, the race with 24 ¼ lengths over the second place. RG Kalifa. The race was played over 1,000 meters on turf, for males and females aged 3 and over.

The 4-year-old colt, son of Mared Al Sahra (x Daughter of Just HVP by *FA El Shawan), bred and owned by José Carlos Vaz Guimarães, was led by Jeane Alves, two-time Jockey Club de São Paulo statistics champion; and the first woman to win the São Paulo GP in May this year.

The duo showed their will to win from the start as they battled for the top positions. But what was not expected was the fantastic sprint in the final 250 meters, when they began to distance themselves from the other competitors until, literally, flying and opening 24 and ¼ lengths of advantage over the others, confirming their favoritism.

Breeder José Carlos Vaz Guimarães Filho stated: “It’s VG Raj Al Mared’s first race and he was fantastic and surprised us. We had confidence in the work of trainer Thiago Haidar and lady jockey Jeane Alves. We are very optimistic for the next races and we are sure that other victories will come as he inherited the will to win from his father, Mared Al Sahra.”

Atentaddo VE champion trainer Thiago Haidar said: “Since I started training VG Raj Al Mared, I felt he would be better than Atentaddo VE, an exceptional animal. Raj looks like he was born race-ready, which makes a trainer’s life easier. And as the distances increase, I’m sure he won’t disappoint.”

For lady jockey Jeane Alves, the achievement was not a surprise. “I rode him twice before the race and I felt he could win. At the start we were among the first places and he showed a great desire to run. I just managed and let VG Raj Al Mared run.”

Almir José Ribeiro, Racing Director of the Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association stated: “Firstly I want to thank Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club for the partnership that is making Arabian horse racing in Brazil and South America a reality. And also to Al Shahania Stud from Qatar, which made it possible for the semen of Mared Al Sahra to come, which is consolidated every day as a great stallion. Today, we have three of his children who won in their debut and now have a total of seven wins in Cidade Jardim.”

Ribeiro continued: “With these races we can show the world our potential as a future exporter of Arabian sport horses. Especially to Sami Al Boenain who always had a very special affection and look at Brazil and Brazilian Arabian horse breeders.”

“Today we had undisputed victories by representatives of the new generation of Arabian horses. Congratulations to the Vaz Guimarães Family for the victory of VG Rag Al Mared; which, for sure, will present us with many more victories in Cidade Jardim.”

The Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club 2022 Grand Prix and the Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club For Maiden Horses Award were organized by the Brazilian Arabian Horse Breeders Association in partnership with the Jockey Club de São Paulo.
