GP Paulo Jamil Saliba: first Arabian Horse Triple Crown classic in Brazil
The first race of the 2023 calendar of the UAE President Cup South America Mondial Brazil will take place on Saturday, May 27, with the organization of the Grand Prix Paulo Jamil Saliba at Hippodrome of Cidade Jardim, Jockey Club de São Paulo.
The Grand Prix is the first classic of the 2023 Arabian Horse Triple Crown, a fair and deserved tribute to the breeder Paulo Jamil Saliba, largely responsible for the return and success of Arabian horse racing in Brazil, who unfortunately left us in March of this year.
Seven champion animals, males and females aged 3 and over, who competed on May 13 in the Wathba Stallions Cup GPs, race for the title of the GP Paulo Jamil Saliba over 1,400 meters on dirt, in a fierce dispute.
The Rach Stud Agropecuária Ltda. is the breeder with six animals in the race, five of which are owned by the Saliba Family; and Lucas Quintana the trainer. The highlights are MAHATMA RACH (*Sarmata x Magic All Rach by Ulisses Rach, seven years old) with six wins being two-time champion of the Wathba Stallions Cup for Colts (2021 and 2022); and NORMANDIA RACH (*Uzbek Du Lion x Novella Rach by Voltaire Rach, age four) Wathba Stallions Cup Fillies I champion on May 13.
Mahatma Rach will be ridden by Jeffecleone Bispo who rode him to third place in the GP Wathba Stallions Cup for Colts I on May 13th and Normandia Rach will be ridden by Michael Silva, the same jockey who brilliantly took her to victory in the GP Wathba Stallions Cup for Fillies I on the same date.
With five years old, OBSTINADO RACH (Atentaddo VE x Obsession Rach by Voltaire Rach) has five victories, one of them with Jorge Ricardo, world record holder for victories in races, will have Ruberlei Viana as jockey.
With three wins, NAIZZA RACH (Feitizzo Rach x La Nouba Endurance by *Saad Ibn Syed) also five years old will be ridden by João Moreira.
With two victories conquered with Jorge Ricardo, HALLMARCK RACH (Bismarck Rach x Havella Rach by Pavel Rach, four years old) will be ridden by Rudinick Viana and is owned by Stud Truc.
We will also have HOLLY POL RACH (All Pol Rach x Hinode ELS by Power World JQ, 6 years old), with one victory and which will be ridden by André Rodrigues Oliveira.
Bred and owned by Almir José Ribeiro we will have CLAPTON AJR (Mared Al Sahra x Cowboys Gal by Wiking, five years old) who masterfully won four of the five races in which he competed, among them was the champion of the Wathba Stallions Cup in May 2021, in addition to set a record in the 1000m on turf in April 2022.
Clapton AJR, which will be ridden by Idevaldo Silva, has Oberdan S. Pereira as his trainer and is one of the great promises of Arabian racing in Brazil and in any other country.
Almir José Ribeiro, racing director of the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association (ABCCA) said: “This Grand Prix is our tribute to our dear friend and breeder Paulo Jamil Saliba, lover of the Arabian horse and eternal ambassador of racing since his return in 2013; and it will be the first Triple Crown Arabian Horse race that we will hold this year. Once again, Rach Stud Agropecuária is the breeder with the most animals in addition to being the largest breeder with the most horses in all races held in Brazil since 2013.
In addition to the prizes during the races, all horses participating in the 2023 Race Calendar also compete in the Race category of the Arabian Cup 2023 promoted by the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association.
The Grande Prêmio Paulo Jamil Saliba is organized by the Arabian Horse Breeders Brazilian Association in partnership with the Jockey Club of São Paulo.
